Course Overview and Target Audience

This ASMBS lab is designed for practicing bariatric surgeons and surgeons new to the field who are involved in the treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders. This lab will cover basic and advanced flexible endoscopy as it plays an integral role in the management of bariatric complications. Participants will be able to rotate through the various stations at their discretion; all skill levels will be assisted.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic balloon dilatation for strictures after gastric bypass
  • Demonstrate multiple modalities of hemostasis which include:
    • Thermal ablation
    • Endoscopic clipping, including new overscope clipping procedures
    • Injection therapy
  • Demonstrate endoscopic stenting
