Course Overview and Target Audience

This course provides an update on the state-of-the-art in metabolic and diabetes surgery. Clinical and experimental data, recommendations and guidelines for metabolic and diabetes surgery will be presented by leaders in the field followed by practical, interactive discussions with Q&A. This course is appropriate for surgeons, endocrinologists, integrated health professionals.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand physiology and pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes
  • Describe the mechanism of action and rationale for the choice of surgical procedures
  • Recognize the practical differences in the multidisciplinary model of care between traditional bariatric surgery and metabolic surgery
  • Identify the specific implications of metabolic surgery for pre-operative patients counseling
  • Discuss the integration of surgical and pharmacologic approaches to optimize post-operative outcomes
